How Can Cape Town Holiday Accommodation Owners Benefit Using A Channel Manager?

Let's assume you want to maximise the income from your Cape Town holiday home. How would you maximise it?

Obviously marketing seems easy. But the only real measure of success is the amount of money the holiday owner can bank after all costs.

Today we will consider why we are using a Channel Manager:

What is a channel manager?

A channel manager is many things. But in short it allows you to market or rather distribute your home's availability and rates to many live booking sites. But reading this I am sure you think why use a channel manager for this simple task. Let me explain.

We can potential get twice as many bookings, than your neigbour, if we can turn on instant booking.

Instant booking sounds very innocent but it's based on sound psychology. To get the full picture I suggest you read Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion, Revised Edition. A most amazing book. But if you are not interested in reading the book then I am sure you know what instant gratification means. You want that handbag now! Not tomorrow. When you have instant booking turned on you give people the tool to spend money now. If not they will pay instantly at your neighbour. Why allow that? It would be stupid.  

But instant booking comes with increased risk.....

 
 

​You can only allow instant booking if your availability calendar is 100% accurate. If not you will pay a fine equal to 15%. This is enough reason to ensure your calendar works.

If you now choose to distribute your availability to three of the largest booking sites in the world (Booking.com, Airbnb and Tripadvisor) then you are looking for problems trying to maintain all these calendars. 

Y​ou only have one choice:

You need to centralize management of the calendar and rates at one place. This is why you will use a channel manager. With the channel manager you can update your description, your annual rates, and your availability at this central dashboard while you bank more money from instant bookings.
