Things To In Cape Town: Did You Know That Mouille Point Lighthouse in Cape Town, South Africa, Is A Misnomer?
I did not know that. According to the local MPRA:
The oldest lighthouse in Southern Africa, popularly known as the ‘Mouille Point’ lighthouse, is a misnomer. It gets its unofficial name from a lighthouse built (and since demolished) at Mouille Point, near Granger Bay. The present lighthouse is situated at Green Point and this explains why the brass plaque on its wall refers to the ‘Green Point Lighthouse – 1824’

Although the *Mouille Point* lighthouse is prominently located, but despite this, on 1 July 1966, during a fierce winter storm, a cargo ship, the S. A. Seafarer ran aground between Mouille Point and Three Anchor Bay. Everybody on board was rescued by helicopters of 17 squadron from AFB Ysterplaat. Read more here
