To Be In Kalk Bay

You know there’s something special about a place when even the locals decide to take a day trip to visit it. Although Kalk Bay is only half  an hour out of Cape Town, it is so deliciously different, so wonderfully slow-paced, so completely villagey, that it feels as if
it’s another world.

Which is why locals, tourists and foreigners alike flock to the tiny town to unwind.

There are a number of reasons to love Kalk Bay, but here are my top 3:

1.    It is so pretty. Really, ridiculously pretty. Brightly painted fishing boats, lovely little shops, winding streets – anything you’d describe as charming, you’ll find in Kalk Bay.

2.    There are so many yummy places to eat. The Olympia Café is the best-known of Kalk Bay’s culinary treasures (and for good reason – such heavenly baked treats!) but wander around the small side streets
and you’ll find a plethora of small bakeries, ice cream shops and eateries, all begging to be sampled. Or of course there’s the fresh fish. Yum.

3.    It’s a shopper’s paradise. Antiques, clothing, books, plants – you name it, you can buy it in Kalk Bay.

So what are you waiting for? Hop in your car and take a drive to the town we all love to love.
