Is Camps Bay not one of the prime Cape Town holiday destinations?

1) Just sitting out on any of the street front restaurants. Sitting in this chair with your friends having a great view, eating lovely food with cold South African wine.

2) Or just have a lazy day on Camps Bay Beach — also called our own St Tropez beach under an umbrella with all your holiday friends.

I don’t like to compare this beautiful place to any other. But it helps. According to Camps Bay Tourism:

Camps Bay beach is Cape Town’s answer to St Tropez …with its fine white sand is packed with beautiful people, especially over weekends and during holidays. Camps Bay’s long stretch of beach is perfect for sunbathing and its open flatness means that team activities like Frisbee and social beach volleyball can also be enjoyed by the more active visitors.

The sea is, due to Camps Bay’s protected place in the bay, quite calm and good for swimming. At the southern end, you will find a tidal pool. The northern part is great for surfing. There is a stretch of lawn in front of the beach where picnics are often enjoyed. Camps Bay beach is safe, clean and family friendly.

3) Things to do on a rainy Camps Bay day:

You know and I know It’s not always sunshine. What do you do when the you cannot go to beach or you had enough?

Go for a day trip. Get in the car for adventure. There are many ideas. Here’s a few:

  • Take the road to Tokai and do the Constantia Wine Route. At most of the theses wine farms you can also have lunch or supper. We enjoyed them all. Try the food at Steenberg or get yourself some wine and a picnic basket at Buitenverwachting. This is such fun I feel like going there now! It’s not even 30 mins from Camps Bay.
  • Take the road to Hout Bay and explore the harbour where the very popular market is. And I mean popular. Music, food, drinks, clothes, people and fun. Fridays 5pm to 9pm, Saturdays & Sundays 9:30am to 4pm. Or just explore Hout Bay restaurants.
  • Take the road past Hout Bay. And drive Chapmans Peak. Will I ever say I have driven this beautiful pass enough? (Image credit).
4) Out in the Camps Bay Nature

Go out and walk. If you want an easy flat trail do the Pipe Track Hiking Trail. According to DoStuff (Check them out for more hiking tips and routes):

The Pipe Track is one of the easiest walks on Table Mountain because it does hardly any climbing. Basically the path follows an old water pipe along a contour from the Kloofnek parking area along the side of table mountain above Camps Bay. The views of Table Mountain, Lions Head, Twelve Apostles and Camps Bay are wonderful for such an easy hike. (image credit)

5) After all this activity you may feel like a party. Well Camps Bay is the place. Where should you go? My travelling friend told me once:

When you travel I never ask. I like getting lost. The fun of travel is all in the journey trying to find your destination.
