Why I Wakeup Before Sunrise In Simon’s Town

As you may know Simon’s Town is a small village, it’s part of the greater Cape Town and it’s a beautiful place. And that’s enough reason for me to wakeup before sunrise.

Let’s have a look at what I see why others are fast a sleep.

Today saw the overcast sky and decided not to take a long walk as it may rain and my walking companion Gino – an Italian Greyhound – does not like rain. So we drove down to Boulder’s Beach boardwalk. This is such a great walk. But early in the morning it’s even better.

When you do ‘Before Sunset,’ you know while it’s a limited audience, there was a very small group of people who love ‘Before Sunrise.’ You feel a certain pressure to make sure that you uphold a level of quality that has been a bar. You set a bar, and you have to at least match it. Ethan Hawke

Looking down from the boardwalk you see these huge rocks and the lovely protected beach. No wonder it’s called Boulder’s Beach. It’s a penguin protected area and you pay a daily fee to enter it. It can become an expensive exercise if you have a large family wanting to use this beach for an extended period. Check with Park’s Board for other pass options – like their Wildcards. You may just save yourself lots of money and it allows you access to other parks as well.

This photo also shows the mountains towards Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay.

Two golden hours somewhere between sunrise and sunset. Both are set with 60 diamond minutes. No reward is offered. They are gone forever. Horace Mann

Do you agree with Horace that these times are diamond minutes. Well, thanks for that. Now I am looking forward to not only seeing you when the sun sets but also at sunrise. Is that a deal.

The photo above was taken a little later than the first one. Just notice the difference in colour. And this is why I find sunrise in Simon’s Town so fascinating. As you lay in your bed snoring the sun is playing through the clouds. A moment missed. For me it’s inspiring me for the day to come. I just love it.

There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope. Bern Williams

A little higher up against the mountains in Simon’s Town this is what you may see if we meet each other during our early morning walks.

May you have a great time and come and enjoy the Cape Town sunrise with me. Bring your cellphone camera and let me show you the great spots to take early morning photos.

Have fun
